I have some large smooth creek stones I want to use in my tank is their a way I can effectively clean them? I have heard of boiling them would that make them explode? The tank is freshwater so ph is not a factor. I know the rocks are non pourous and are not limestone as i have tested for acidity. Any tips would be awesome, thanks!:)

Rinse them well and scrub them....boiling is recommended too and will get rid of any diseases/contaminants (you should boil for about 10 minutes, & no the rocks won't explode), and put them in the tank. :)

Thank you very much. I scrubbed them all very well and boiled them for about 15 minutes, some bubbling, but no explosion like you said :) They were not in water for at least 4 years they were in my front yard landscaping.

Tada! Went off without any issues, fish are all doing fine. Speaking or rock I really want to change over from gravel to sand, any tips on how to do that?

use a dust pan,or cut a 1 gal. water jug, keep handle on it,if you use jug,cut hole in the bottom so the water will run out and stay in tank
