So I hooked up 2 inline canisters to a 3600gph pump.
The system is up and running. How do I measure the GPH actually entering the tank?

Fill a 5 gallon bucket from the return line and do the math....or get a guage. As long as the systems keeping the water clear then I don't see that it really maters.

I suppose it wouldn't if there was a bioload, but it's an empty tank and I'd like to know that it's turning over at least 3 times an hour to support whatever bioload I put in. Plus, it's a 3600gph pump with pressure that feels closer to 250gph so I feel it matters, thanks.

5 Gallon bucket. The farther up you go the more gph you will loose. smaller gph pumps seem to have more torque, not loosing a whole lot. The larger gph pumps seem to exponentially loose pressure as the hight is increased.

time how long it takes to fill up a gal container and multiply. If it takes 15sec to fill multiply by 4 =1min. Then multipy by 60 min.
