How to "milk" fish

how do you do the "milking" of a fish? is it a bad idea?

The idea is that you take a breeding male, move it to the eggs of another related fish and lightly squeeze to release sperm.

That's called hand-stripping. It can be dangerous to your fish if done improperly. All I know is that people do it only on goldfish and koi. I know some good breeders who practice that, you get wonderful results,
