Just setting up my first sump. Got everything going but it's not dialed in. I have to make a stockman silencer for my life reef predicted/overflow. Currently using the airline tube trick to stop the slurping noise.

My drain line to my sump has minimal bends and can't really be improved on IMO. From the drain line it goes into a filter sock (I might tee it and have it go to 2 socks instead of just one) and into the sump. No real noise issue there.

Most of my noise is from the water from the tank going into the overflow, and the drain line itself. The water flowing through the drain line is fairly noisy.

I use a mag drive 12 pump. Seems really quiet and I am happy with it. The water going back to the tank is silent too.

The sump is baffle less design with only socks used to mechanical. The biomedical is in bags and just sits in the sump. I have my flow rate maxed out for what the drain can handle. Guess somewhere between 500-600 ghp. But not sure. I just know if I open the ball valve any more of the return line the overflow box begins to fill up and stays full. Tank level slowly raises and the sump level drops. So this is my max flow.

I would appreciate any advice. I am sure it will never been pure silence but I would like to quiet it does some if possible.

Will the stockman standpipe mod help quiet the drain line noises?
