I am moving my tsn from a 90g tank to a 250 gal pond but did not know that the fish had sharp spines on its side fins. what should be the best way to net it and transport it about 20 minutes away to my house. any suggestions would help?:headbang2

catch him in a pillow case
:D

or just use a big koi net

should be fine I think

moved a 3 footer tsn, caught him with a beach towel then into a big cooler, no air pump needed, for that time span. 1 footer only challenge is catching them before the bust the snout on the glass, put towel in over him, hands behind the (sharp spiny fins) pin him down gently but so he cant move, squeeze lift set in cooler. if thats not detailed enough pm me. oh yea, if possible have a change of clothes handy, and a vehicle you dont mind a bit of water in. you ever watch crocodile hunter?? like that, but instead of hands on mouth, hands on body.

EDIT: DO NOT and I cant stress that enough DO NOT use a net, hell be stuck in that thing youll have to cut him out, hell at a foot I bet you could use a large pitcher to catch him.

tried net and bag first and learned the hard way took 5 minutes to get fins out of net then in less the 30 secs he put 4-6 hyoles in the plastic bag!!!! big bummer put him back in the 90g and will get him this week! thanks, will try.

have you ever been fishing ?..... some of the best places to grab a fish are the bottom jaw behind the gills or by the fins.... i recommend lowering the water lvl and pinning it down and wrapping the head (eyes) and as much of the fish s you can.. but mainly the eyes, with a small towel tuck your hand behind the the fin bone with the fingers going under the belly. the other hand holding the mouth. then lift the fish up as fast and securly as you can and hug it to you body under your armpit and watch out for the other fin spike

toss him into a cooler and go.

plastic bags might as well be paper bags with large catfish.... its any hard plastic container or havoc

Ive heard of using a piece of pvc with one end capped guide them in there and use a net on the tail end. Pvc is good so the fins dont get stuck! I also found out the hard way with a net and a foot long RTC that was freakin scary!!!
