I am moving my 14" silver to a new tank this weekend. My question is what is the best way to do this? He hasn't been in a net since he was 7" plus I don't have a net that large. He is realativly calm and I think I will just try to coax into a 5 gallon bucket. Any better ideas?

Also this is just a temp tank and I will have to do again this summer, of course he'll be at least 18-19" by then.

get yourself a trash bag one of the heavy duty ones
then place it in the tank and fill it with water
then coax the aro into the trash bag with a net or whatever
then remove water out of the bag till you can lift it without it busting
don't take all the water out but just enough

this is the easiest and least stressfull on the fish

i've used wet t-shirts. i cover his head so he can't see whats going on so he's less stressed. but i think this time around im gonna try the trashbag method. he's to big for a net n i dont want him flopping around messin up his fins/scales.

Go to a LFS ang ask them for a large enough bag to fit your aro in.
Drain 50% of the water in the tank then mave him swim in the bag and scoop him up.

I tried this with a garbage bag and my aro jumped straight through the bag.(it was the HD type)

Some people say that they also have used pillow cases.

Buy a big koi net. Big.
They're soft enough that they dont do damage. They make rubber nets now too, but I dont know how big they are.
Monster fish require monster nets.

I just bought a koi pond net, they're white and soft and so tight knit they don't appear to be able to injure the fish. I've done the plastic garbage bags and tshirt and all have worked just fine.

Don't try to use a plastic grocery bag...even though it has nice handles. The arowana can blast through it...I know from experience. So double bag it. Also... take all the decor out of the tank too.

i net then dump the fish into the new tank

I make sure parameters are both the same before though.

of course that was 2 years ago, ill go with the trahscan liner method next tiem i decide to move her.

A big koi net works great even at 24"
