Hello all. For the last year and a half ive had a lone percula clown in a 8 gallon biocube. I hated the biocube. I lately upgraded to a standard 10 gallon tank with much better filtration and lighting. Now that the tanks better off id like to pair up my clown. The problem is that i cant add 5 little buddies and let him/her pick its own mate. Is there any way that i can better my hit and miss odds at pairing them up? Like getting a much bigger or much smaller clown and hoping it helps the pair bond form? Any tips would be great. Thanks.

I would recommend buying a smaller clown unless your's is pretty small, then I would get a larger clown. For more information on pairing up clownfish and breeding go check out MOFIB by searching it on yahoo.

get the smallest clown you can find in a tank of clowns

mostlikley after 1 1/2 years yours is a female so you want to get a juvi which has not sexed yet and they will eventually pair up,,be forewarned she maynot accept a new clown in her tank.

Alrighty. Ill keep my eyes open for a little'un and hope she plays nice. If not theres a store locally that only does salt water stuff. Im sure theyd take the newbie in if i was in a pinch. Thanks all.

clowns are born netrual, the biggest most aggressive one will be female, the next biggest/agressive one will be male.. the rest will stay nwtural or move on to another home ... if the female dies then the male will transition to a female and the next biggest/agressive neturla one will become male... if the male dies the female will remain a female and the next agressive/biggest netural one will become male.. females donot revert back to males

also if a clownfish is the lone clown in a tank for any lenght of time it will be a female

Try re-arranging the tank and introducing the new clown with the lights off to reduce stress.. Thats what I did when one of my 2 clowns died.. I introduced 3 more the next week and they are still living happily together... Good luck
