I have a 4-5 inch bass (large or spotted) that i need to get pellet trained the feed bill is to high. He gets minnows mainly sometimes red worms. when i feed the minnows i just throw them in (10-30 at a time) he eats at his own rate. what should i do.

Try starving the fish for a wek..They bite eagerly after doing the week dought........Mealworms arenot so expensive........Stick to the Superworms.....Get 100 for $5......5-10 a day untill they learn how to eat pellets.........

Keep feeding pellets constantly somethin good like hikari, no live or it will become stubborn. It will be annoying cleaning excess food but it's the only way, after a bit of starving- by that I mean no live only pellets- they will give in eventually

I have never tried the starving method.

I feed minnows mainly in one side or same spot of the tank every time. I drop 1 minnow at a time. I never drop them all in at once. I do this for a week or two and they become trained to come to that same spot for food. They will usually snatch the minnow once it hits the surface of the water. This is when start throwing in pellets. I throw in 1 minnow, 1 pellet, 1 minnow, 1 pellet and so on. They might not hit the pellet the first few times but I keep doing this and soon enough they will hit the pellet. Once they do you can slowly take away more minnows and soon enough they will be on pellets only.

This is the only way I've trained all my fish.
