How To Populate A Refugium

hey guys, i was just wondering how to properly populate your refugium? what sort of things are needed etc...

as of right now i have some live sand/mud, chaetomorpha and some live rock i've been adding some live copepods but nothing's happening i dont see an increase in pods :S should i have the protein skimmer after the fuge or before it? should i have the fuge in a high-medium flow area or a low-dead flow area?

Protine skimmer before fuge or the pods trying to get to your tank will be skimmer food, your probably going to need different macros if you want pods to thrive, chaeto is kinda fiberouse for most things, id suggest a garcillaria or even just using regual tank slime algea. But even so it may take time, and a few dosings for the pods to get a good hold on your system.

As for flow I would say mid to low, as you want nutrients getting there but you dont want to kick the crap out of the inhabitants haha.
