how to prevent fries from getting suck in the filter?

ive been thinking on how to prevent fries from getting into the filter. i notice tht my tilapia fries were decreasing. then i checked on the sponge filter, there they were, dead. read on google tht they use a small piece of cloth to cover it. but wht do u guys suggest?

Seriously though, sponge is good. Gives the fry something to graze over too.

Sorry I misread that. Are you sure they aren't just dying and then getting sucked onto the sponge? Ive used canister filters with fry before and they didn't get sucked into/ against the sponge over the intake.

You could try using a smaller, less powerful sponge filter or air pump but sponge filters are really the only way to go when you're talking about fry tanks

nope. they literally get sucked into the filter to the sponge. im talking about a top filter actually. sory, forgot to write about it.

Yea when you raise fry, you need a sponge filter.
