:help2:Can anyone take some time and let me know how to properly re silicone a tank? I've got a 75 gal tank that was apparently leaking(thats why I got it, it was free) so I know it needs to be re silicone. I know that I have to pull out all of the old silicone. I've got some tools for it like GE Silicone 1 Window & Door, some painters tape to make the seal straight, and some rubber gloves to smooth out the silicone. What else am I needing to do to properly get the right seal on this tank? any feedback will be VERY much appreciated.

Caulk Gun. :D Sorry You probably already have one :D but it wasn't listed :D

Put a good bead down all the inside seams .. All of them before smoothing.. then run your finger around the bottom seams and then down each of the wall seams.. that is pretty much how I do it.. it is not as hard as it seems.. after the 3rd tank :D

Oh make sure you clean it with acetone and rinse well before sealing ;)

Keep a small container of rubbing alcohol around too. Use latex gloves and dip your finger in the alcohol before you smooth out the beads you lay down with the caulking gun...that way the silicone won't stick to your finger and will make smoother seams.

:woot: Sweet thx for all info guys. Sounds like I know what I'm going to be doing on my day off sunday. I'll post back on here after I get it all re silicone back up and let you know how it went.

is this the same technique for building your own tank?

i use a popsicle stick or tongue depressor--keeps the finger clean and the curved shape at each end works well
