hey guys im about to transfer my koi fish from my outdoor pond into my indoor pond. The problem is is that the outdoor pond temps are pretty low while the indoor pond temps are around room temp. How should i go about transfering from indoor to outdoor because i do not want to shock the fish. If i just bag the fish then leave the unopened bag in the indoor pond for about 20 minutes so it can adjust to the pond temp should it be fine?

Have you thought about using the water from your outdoor pond to fill up you indoor pond and then transferring your fish? I don't know how feasible this is (what size are your ponds and how far are they from each other?) but that's what I do when I move my fish from their summer home outdoors to their winter home indoors.

Depending on how large the koi is or are, i would place it in a container, bring it inside and use a tube or hose to slowly bring water from the indoor pond to the container. You may have to pour some of the water out of the container several times as it fills up. is the out door water temp below 55 deg f? i would give the fish as much time as possible to adjust to a very large temp swing (20 deg or so).

What temp difference are we looking at ???

The temperature shock is quite a blown up issue.

If you move your fish in a plastic tub or something, and float it in the warmer tank for about 30 minutes, adding a cup full of water every few minutes (the furthest distance you can get away from the fish so it moves with the water naturally) he will be fine after 30 minutes.
If the temperature is still too much, what I've done is slowly submerged the tub and then bring it back up again and basically changing half of the cold water for half warm water. Do that a couple of times and then submerge it completely and viola!

If the fish are not to big and you have the right size bags, I would acclimate just like you would any fish. Float it for 30 mins+ and add tank water a little at a time.

The tote will work as well. Make sure to cover it as I have had Koi jump and splash a lot. Again, slowly drip from the new tank. I like to tie a knot in a piece of airline tubing to get the desired flow.

Have you checked the parms. from each pond to see if they are close?
