How to Raise a Jar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
this is the kind of stuff you look up BEFORE you buy the fish.

that really grinds my gears.

You bought a Jardini without knowing the temp. it should be kept in? :nilly:

Well 3/4 inches i would feed it blood worms, plankton, brine shrimp, and krill. For the water Temp 75-85. Keep 1 per tank.

 Peter Griffin on Family Guy....

Joking aside...

You should state your setup and your water parameters and we could tell you what you did wrong with your previous one.

I know we all can impulsively buy things, but you should make it a habit to do some research prior to investing into something you've never had experience with.

How big's the tank?
What temperature did you have the water at? Was it even heated?
What kind of filtration?
Have you tested your water? (before and after it died)
Tankmates?

How do you raise a young/small jar about 3-4 inches long? how much to feed and what to feed, water temp?

First of all welcome to MFK, not all are members are such :nilly:. I see from your other post you've lost a Jar. Also from your reference to water params I take it you don't have much experience with fish keeping.

My suggestion is start with some other type fish, such as convict cichlids which are hardy and easy to care for. You need to understand the nitrogen cycle, how to cycle a tank and fully understand water parameters and the effects they have on your fish. Typical water params are ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, pH there is also general hardness and carbonate hardness plus numerous others, but the first 4 listed are to be your main concern.

A jardini is a fish that should be kept by an experienced hobbyist. I know the loss of your Jar is kind of a mystery, but without knowing the before mentioned it would be quite hard to solve.

Don't be discouraged, start over, gain knowledge and experience. Post any questions you may have here on MFK, you may have to dig through some BS but you will be able to find the answers to your questions.:)

water temp...25-28 degrees celcius, as for food! u can go for frozen or pellets or start it on neons/white clouds...

I keep my temp at about 80 degrees, feeding includes frozen blood worms, krill and crickets. Clean water is a must so make sure your filtration is solid and you are doing regular water changes. I'm doing 2 to 3 water changes a week. Not sure if that is over kill, but better safe than sorry. Especially early on.
