How to read stick-on thermometers?

I bought an outside strip thermometer (the plastic kind you stick to the tank) for my turtles and I'm having trouble reading it. It's a 40 gallon tank with a 100 watt Aqueon heater (rated for 40 gallons) and the dial is set to 88 degrees Fahrenheit. I have one for my 75 gallon but it's from a different brand, and that one isn't hard to read at all (the temperature of the tank lights up green) but I can't read the one I just got.

Ok I think I figured it out haha. So the green is the approximate temp the water's at, right?

yes, can get a cheap digy thermometer if looking for exact temps.
