Hello,
I have a used acrylic tank and the overflows and back panel have a crusty, white substance on them that kind of flakes off but isn't easy to remove. The tank was previously a saltwater setup. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If it's an empty tank use white vinagar and water and rinse.

Also, a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and filtered water (bottled is good) is something you should have in a spray bottle to clean tank glass/acrylic. It works very well and there's no worries if you get a bit of overspray in the tank. :)

Absolutely correct, works like a charm.....I had to soak a 55g over night to get it perfectly clean.

How do you know if all the vinager is cleaned out and it's safe for fish? I was going to hose the panels down and siphon the water out a couple times but didn't know if there is a better way?

I drained the V/W solution into the street and then placed the tank on the lawn.....where I proceeded to rinse the tank while watering the lawn. I then let the tank air dry for a day, rinsed it one more time.....and haven't looked back! I added water, fish, and a FX-5 from another tank....and not a single problem.
