Whilst in the hospital my buddy watched my big fish. The tank was broken down but now I have horrid build up to deal with on my 55. I could just get a fresh tank but what would be best to clean it with? Worst case I could use it with a reptile

Try vinegar and a razor

+1 another thing would be to soak a cloth or towel in the vinegar and drape it over the area with the buildup(I'm assuming the rim of the tank ) let it sit there and then it should soften it up enough to be able scrape off

Muriatic acid is the best, get some rubber gloves and sponge it on straight on, rinse rinse rinse. You won't even have to scrape. Do it outside, the fumes will f you up without some fresh air. We used to do it that way all the time at the store. Makes them look like brand new.

vinegar in a spray bottle, liberally mist the whole area you plan to clean with it, let sit for while then hit it with a razor and scrubby sponge
