I scored a wet/dry filter on craigslist which is bigger and nicer than the one i am currently using. It has two 1 inch return holes pre-drilled on the bottom side that i would prefer just to seal since i already have a submersible pump and i only plan on using one return line.

I happen to have 1 inch pvc plugs and caps and i think with a little thread tape and silicone should seal it...is that a good idea? Or should i order some bulk heads and then cap those off?

Get some bulkheads and then cap/plug the bulkheads off. Get it done right on first time will save you a lot off headache in the future.

why not use them for easy water changes if they are low enough?

Id use bulk heads also, if you ever resell they wont look at it weird and one day you may require to use those holes who knows?

You could also use glass sheets and silicone but its messy. never looks nice.

thanks for the replies. i like the look of those expansion plugs. i am going to see if they have them at lowes because i have to go there anyway...if not, i might just order some bulkheads. Has anyone else used expansion plugs for this application?

I finally got the bulkheads i needed and they fit in the holes perfectly. I was going to put a cap on the bulkheads, but would a plug be better?
