Ok I have this issue that's been bugging me forever and I haven't figured out how to resolve it. It deals with doing a search on certain forums. MFK is no problem.

For example, if I do an advanced search on this site for "monster carp" and select 'search thread titles only', the results will show ONLY thread titles that have the word 'monster' AND 'carp' in the title.

But on other crappy forums, this would bring up any thread with the word 'monster' OR 'carp' in the title. This makes the entire search feature for a site completely worthless. The same goes for doing a random search of posts too. It brings up threads completely irrelevant to your search.

Is there a way around this, and force it to search the entire phrase? I've tried quotes, parentheses, brackets, and nothing works. How can I search for something when the search feature sucks?!?!?! :irked:

So is there something up with these forum's software or am I missing something?

Depends what software they're using. phpbb is known to do that. I used one forum with that crappy search before and had to recall the more unique words used in a particular thread I wanted to find to be able to find it. o.O

vBulletin always narrows down the searches better. MFK is vBulletin based.

Just checked and this is what they're running: "Powered by vBadvanced CMPS v3.2.2"

So there's no way around it? :(

vBadvanced is the same as vBulletin.

It doesn't help much if you are using common words and even symbols. Maybe that's why you get the irrelevant threads, Jose. You have to find or remember less common words to quickly narrow down your searches.

How do I search for something? To quickly find a thread or post of interest anywhere on the bulletin board, click on the 'Search' link in the navigation bar at the top of most forum pages. Then, type in the keyword or phrase you wish to search for, and select either 'Show Threads' or 'Show Posts' to view the results. By selecting posts, you will be shown only the actual post in which the search word appears.
For more control over the search, select 'Advanced Search' from the drop-down box. The advanced search page allows you to restrict your search to individual forums, find posts or threads by user, or return results based on tags (?). There are also options to find posts from a certain date, or threads with a certain number of replies.
How do I search a specific forum or thread?
If you are browsing a forum, you can quickly search for a thread or post within it by clicking on the 'Search this forum' link near the top of the page (it's above the list of threads). You can also search for individual posts within a thread by clicking on the 'Search this Thread' link at the top of any thread view page.

LOL, how can I recall certain words when I haven't seen the thread to begin with?? ;)

For example, I'm on a car forum, and trying to search for "OEM roof rack". I tried searching 'titles only' but I get 6000 threads that have the work OEM or roof or rack in the title. It's completely useless. Like I said, MFK is no problem since our search feature will only bring up threads that contain the entire phrase.
