I am setting up a 8'x2'x20" acrylic tank with 2 double T5 HO Glo fixtures. 2 questions 1. How high above my tank should I hang the light fixtures?(currently have them suspended 5 inches from tank) 2. I have my fish and my FX5 on my 75 gallon and my FX5 is going to be running my new tank what do I do how can I make this transfer work without puting the fish right in tap water????

Just transfer the water from your existing tank to the new one, if you have to add more add more it would be like doing a water change.

Why don't you just fill it with new water using a water conditioner? As long as you put your established FX5 on the tank I don't see a problem.

Question: Is there a valid reason for anyone to put old tank water into a new one when transfering fish to a bigger tank? I guess I could see if the tank is not well maintained with high nitrates or something. Then it'd be a matter of acclimation, right? I'm confused when people say to add old water.

Edit- To the guy above, what do you mean by if you need to add more water? lol. It's a 75 the other tank is like what 220 gallons?

If you intend on using the same tap water in the 75 gal for the 220 then there isint a problem filling the 220 with completely new water. Just make sure to hook up the fx5 and let it run for a day or two to become stable.

Do you mean run the FX5 on the new empty tank a day or two before adding the fish? I wouldn't do that, as the longer you leave the filter running on an empty tank, the more your biofilter starts to die off from lack of a nutrient source.

Here's all you have to do:
1. Fill the new tank, using dechlorinator.
2. Move filter to the new tank.
3. Move fish to the new tank.
