How do you sex a Jardini or any A

And is ther any chance att all to get more then one in a tank?

Becouse think im going to get a new one since mine got killed by my biggest pacu (moving them now)

Why i ask is becouse i want to try to get them to breed. Iknow its like one chance in thousand. Ive got a 1500L fish tank. No idea how many Gal that is.
Or is there an other Aro thats easier?? I know silver wont be a prob to keep more then one but they are not that nice lookin. Im bored of pacus, RBP and Kafue Pikes now. Just so sad my Jardini died... :asianarow :rip

That's going to be pretty tough to do.

First off, arowana are VERY difficult to distinguish between male and female. They are mouth brooders, so the males will have larger, deeper set jaws to handle the eggs and fry, but it is near impossible to tell...especially with younger aros.

Second, your tank works out to just about 400 gallons...which is WAY too small to breed arowana in. They are usually bred in huge ponds or pools where they can breed properly.

They are definitely one of the best fish to keep...I just wouldn't plan on seeing babies anytime soon.

you got a 50/50 chance of sexing them.

most arowana reach sexual maturity at around 3-5 years in age (afew have reached it at two but dont count on yours reaching it that fast).

telling the sexes apart is almost impossible as both male and female look the same, unless they are in ready to breed. the females are alot thicker than males.

other members will tell you go get a DNA test, but good luck finding someone that is able to do that.

they will kill each other or at least one the other....

Most Jardini's and arows like to live in small schools of 5-8. But in smaller tanks, this isnt possible. In a 400G, theres no doubt that they wouldnt breed. The best possible chance would be to raise 6-8 in a large pond.

My 2 jardini's chew on each other.

Bugger =( Need to come up with something new then.. Will have a massive tank and no fishes to put in, exept for pacu then if i dont give them away to the seaworld. And my oboe (kafue pike) I realy would like to have more then one..

You can definitely keep an aro in there...just don't plan on them breeding. If you want more that one aro together, put in a couple of silvers or blacks...they aren't nearly as aggressive as Jardinis.
