A few weeks ago I got 6 juvenile geos, places them in a 10 gallon setup and now waiting for them to grow until I put them in my 55. I plan to breed these guys and I can't seem to find much info on how to sex them or breed them so any info would be great
I'm not sure on how to sex them. Last time that I had them I got 7 of them at less than an inch long. They took about a year and a half to mature it seemed. By then I had 5 left and I got 2 breeding pairs out of them. once they started breeding it seemed like they had eggs every 2 weeks. I just got a 12 pack of them last week and I'm really looking forward to doing it all over again. They are 1''-2'' right now and I have them in a 40 breeder with some cories, columbian tetras, and platys. This group is really active and constantly begging for food and schooling together.
No I just let them do their thing. At the time I wasnt really into breeding them. I might do that this time but around here the market is saturated with them.
From what I've noticed, males grow slightly faster and larger than females and males will also have longer trailers on thier fins. My female redheads all have mostly rounded fins.
I also just picked up 6 1.5" juvie red heads. Just my personal experience is to ask someone very well versed with geo taps. On the forum either jk47 and peathenster off the top of my head. Also, you can call Jeff Rapps, owner Tangled Up in Cichlids. He has often been very open in regards to sharing his knowledgs with me. But the members I mentioned are great resources. I just watch mine terrorize my cory's. My taps are all over the place. The fins are starting to really yellow up and a few have slight red on their dorsals. @wfex4...I was always under the impression that is how to truly differentiate M's from F's. Lets see some pics.
