How can i sex them and how big do they have to be?

2-4" ;) And you will get your best result from venting.

And after a very short period you will definately know what a male vent looks like :D

Having raiased quite a few... and haveing raised both proven males and proven females... I am convinced that venting is the only reliable way to sex these fish... and that the larger the fish the more reliable venting is. I've made made mistakes venting these fish too young...

That being said... more males survive to adulthood than females...

Does any one know how to lower PH down to 7.0 The reason is I have a electric blue dempsey and I was told I should lower is PH down. I have drift wood in the tank and it doesnt seem to lower the PH. My dempsey is very active though. He eats well and is very colorful and eats anything that i put in the tank. I had him or her for a little over a week. I picked him up Sept. 1st 2011. The size of it is 1 1/2" -1 3/4" long.

What's your tap water's pH?

You don't need to do anything about it unless you have a delicate wild caught fish, captive bred cichlids have adapted to a wide range of pH and rarely need any adjustments, so all you're gonna do is waste a lot of money. Your JD will do fine in your tap water's pH as long as it's not extreme and you keep it stable and clean.
