My LFS is ordering some festaes (at least i hope there festaes and not mayans) and i want to get a female. I have a slight idea how to tell the difference. Any tips on picking out a female festae?:naughty:

Good luck getting Festae, I know what you mean. More often than not lfs' end up with Mayans.

The forward half of the dorsal will be dark blue or black on female Festae.
If they're less than 3-4" though, sometimes they'll fool you or you just can't tell yet.

Probably your best bet, all the fish we get in as Festae where I work are in fact Mayan's. I'm trying to talk the owner into doing business with Jeff.

agreed, I never see any true festae come in as shipments near me, and we only had them once at a lfs, bc the owner's breed. I got mine as fry at an auction, and thier parents, unsurprisingly were believed to come from rapps.

Best to just order them from Rapps.I had evry LFS for a 100 mile raduis order Festae and they were all Mayan. So i finally ordered from Rapps

Well they called me today saying the got some in. Right away i noticed the were Mayans and not Festaes. Funny thing is that they were labled as red terrors and Festaes
