When almost fully mature, the males (or at least mine) have a blueish head, more on the lower part though. The females do not have this at all. Males are also more aggressive.
I have noticed that females are usually smaller and not as bright yellow. they may have a more white belly and not as much black in their color. juveniles are difficult to sex.
Found out mine is female when her mouth grew 3-4x normal size......she was carrying fry.
2 survived.
no clue who the baby daddy is...............new hybrid.
All jokin' aside.......heres a not so good pic of my female note the anal fin is yellow n black... males are blue n black.............and she did carry fry 2 survived
Gotta vent them anything else is a guess.
I mean you can tell who the dominant male in a colony is by observing mature fish but the rest you dont really know if its female or a subdom male
