Hey everyone, I was hoping to get some insight on shipping large (15"+) Bichirs.

Im currently negotiating buying some Endli and Cong. Bichirs from a MFK member, but they are afraid to ship such large fish.

The trip wouldnt be very long, Im in MD and they are in NYC, so we are relitively close.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, upper jawed species seem to be hard to get here on the East Coast!

Thanks in advance.

Tripple bagged, layer of newspaper between each bag, ballooned with oxygen, plus an oxygen tablet.
If weather is cold, wrap a body heat pad in newspaper and place in a poly box along with the bag.

+1 bought my 14" lap with that kind of packaging. Weird part was it had ice underneath the plastic. Then plastic is wrapped in newspaper. Didn't know what the ice was for but it was effective. All in all about 6 hours travel time 5 hours on the road because of heavy traffic. 1 hour via plane.

Awesome, glad to hear. Thanks for taking the time to respond, hopefully this will help!

How much were they going for?

Why ship? Baltimore to NYC is less then 8 hour round trip. I imagine AP to AP is even less then gas and tolls. Packaging wouldn't be a big deal.

I really have zero understanding of AP to AP or how it works, I guess ill start researching that as well.

cold water holds more oxygen maybe thats why they have ice in there...
