Hey I just went on a trip and got all these cool stones and pebbles that I want to put in my tank. I hosed the dirt off of them and put them in my bathtub and have them soaking in hot water. Is there another way to do this or something I could add to the water they are sitting in to make sure they dont bring anything into my tank that could hurt my livestock? Whats the best way to clean them? Thanks!

bleach and then rinse with water/dechlor, or boil them:)

Boil

Bleaching? Do you soak them in bleach or just scrub them? This sounds a little easier than boiling. yes?

boil them before you bake um.. that will make um nice and tender... Wait hold up thats ribs..
Use a 1/2 mix of bleach and water and pour it over the rocks. Then toss them in a bucket with water and toss some dechlorinator in there and let them sit over night. I would be generous with the declor. after that rinse them off again real good.and toss um in.

:iagree: , Just rinse them well before and after you bleach them, it'll save on declor.

Baking can be dangerous and useless. If rocks have trapped moisture in them and you heat them up enough to kill all bacteria, the moisture turns to stream and could explode rather than just crack.

Do keep them in a bucket of water for a week or two to make sure they don't desolve which could drastically change your pH.

I had what I thought were some beautiful rocks. I bleached / scubbed & rinsed them. Put them in a tank and they desolved after 2wks.
