ok ppl i know what silicone is safe for aquariums and am woundring is that all ppl are using to tile there tanks with is to silicone the tile to the tank then use silicone to fill the gaps like grout?? im wanting to tile the back side of the tank as im having troubles getting the crapy old paint of the outside back of tank so thought ill tile the backside of the tank like some ppl have done to their bottoms of tanks!!! thanks everyone

I see no problem with that. I did it once before on a 55gal tank. I never silicone the bottom of the tank tiles, but the back I never used silicone as grout to fill the gaps. I just kept the tiles close together in the back of the tank.

Hello; I have used silicone to adhear slate and glass inside tanks. It should work for tile, but I have not tried to do that. As far as silicone being grout between the tiles, here is something I did several years back. I made a tiered tank with three levels by adhering glass panels in place with silicone. I did not want the glass to show. I spread a thin layer of silicone onto the glass and quickly dropped black gravel onto it while it was still tacky. The gravel stuck quite well. The glass was not noticeable at all. I was able to lay the tank on it's back when doing this so that gravity was not an issue. I spread a lot of gravel and pressed it into the silicone. The excess fell off later but plenty remained. Perhaps you can press sand or such into the silicone "grout" while it is still uncured and enough will stick?

yes ok i like the ideas thanks im just trying to think of best ideas to hold the tiles in place while they cure om the back of tank!! its a 600gallon ass glass so im not wanting to round of the crew of men to move it again to its side lol.
