hi all im thinking about turning my 180g (48"x24"x36"tall) into a 360g by moving the back up to the front next to the existing front. keeping the sides the same. get rid of the bottom and make a new bottom and back with wood/ fiberglass and yes alot of bracing between the front panels. so my question is. how do you seperate the glass without chipping or cracking it? i only have one chance at this. i have done many reseals but never a complete disassembly. any coments concerns questions or ideas welcome thanks

i broke a tank trying this. then i figured out how to do it without breaking.

use an exacto knife to cut out the stuff on the inside and under the rim, then once you have the rim off use strong fishing line or something like it to saw down the seem. i used 20 lb braided cause thats what i had laying around. it will break after a few strokes but it worked really well. i'm sure something else like a guitar string may work well also.
i plan on doing the same build with my 75 cause the bottom broke :)

we expect a build thread!!!

Use a utility knife from the outside and keep the blade within the plane of the glass at all times. What you can't cut from the outside, you can then cut from the inside. Those long blades on the plastic dosposable knives (with the sections that you break off when they get dull) are great for doing the inside. You can also use just a standard blade, but the bleeding stubs that were once your fingers will be sore for a while.

Use tape to hold the seam together after you cut it. This will prevent the chips and cracks from the falling parts as you cut the last seam.
