Tank raising Bowfin

I just found this, and thought a few might enjoy the read and info. I also saw that most tank raise Bowfin only get 12-16" males are generally bigger.

Cool fish, my boss (who has liscensing to collect in WI) and I are talking about trying to grab one after their spawn this coming spring.

lol mine is already over 12" and hes not even a year old yet. A lot depends on the feeding, water quality and tank size.
The tank in the article is a 40-55 wide which is why the Bowfin stayed small and probably lived a much shorter life. 40-55 g is a good growout for Bowfin for its first year of life......but you should have a tank of at least 175g for an adult Bowfin (for them to be healthy and live a long life).

Truly a very interesting article. I've heard of Bowfins, but have not had the privilage of meeting up with one, young or old. The article stated they are found mostly in the Northeast portions of the states. I wonder if they inhabit areas like Michigan or Wisconsin. If anyone might know an answer to that, I'd appreciate you sharing that information. In the meantime, Iam going to do some googling on the internet about the Bowfin. I hope I find what I'm looking for.

Thanks for sharing the article Racerisk. It's good to know information. Especially if one is looking to raise Gars and Bowfins together.

My Bowfin is going to be a year old in the spring, hes in a 75 and i feed him every night and keep up on weekly water changes. Hes just about 8''. Ive seen them full grown at almost 3' so ill definitly need a bigger tank or pond once he out grows the 75. Hes my favorite fish, there isn't any fish in the world id rather keep.
