Hi all,
I got a group of 6 lyonsi from rapps about 6 weks ago, they're about 4.5'' right now,3 a little bigger than the others, however I don't see any black blotches on any of the dorsals, did I get 6 males:irked: or does the absence of the black blotch not necessarily mean male,

Female lyonsi have a black spot in the dorsal just like female festae, trimacs, & salvini.

Happened to me with Lyonsi (not from Rapps) where I received 8 males. As juveniles, I suspect that the seller bagged the fish of similar sizing and increased the chances of all males. No big deal, just bought a female and was able to get a spawn.

Yeah, looks like thats what happened, but does absence of the black blotch on the dorsal definetely mean male?.I seem to recall a previous thread regarding a pair of trimacs again from rapps and the female was sans blotch.

I think the females will have more pink below the gill area...and the blotch might not have to be real pronounced. I have 2 left from some I got from rapps and I think they are both female. They have a lot of pink and the dorsal is "dark" on the front 1/2...not a blotch. And some times its easier to see than others. Only real way is to vent or have them pair off.
