How to tell if a Crayfish is about to molt.

How can you tell? Is there any symptoms or behavior a Crayfish can display to tell you if they're about to molt?

Mine stop eating and start building cover...move rocks and decor to get a better hiding place while they harden up...

Mines was eating just last night.

Today it seemed kind of funny. It's tail is completely curled up and it was trying to move forward but was forcing it's claw through the sand as if he couldn't move it. Mind you he's very healthy so I was guessing that maybe he was preparing to molt or something.

What about physically? Is there any way to tell by their appearance if they're about to molt?

Mine would use all his legs in like a "dog scratching" motion to loosen up the shell...then he backs out of his front section including claws and legs then he shakes off the tail shell...

you can also see the back of the crays old shell start to seperate from his tail.

Yeah u can literally see it crack open juz behind e head.. When tt happens e cray will be moulting within e next hour or so..
