how to tell if cichla will be a nice one?

is there way to tell if a cichla is gonna be a stunner? any signs to look for? im talking about 2 1/2-3 1/2" . AT what size can u tell if they are gonna be good looking fish?

Personally, I think when they're that size your best bet is to get them on a varied diet, off live, on pellets if possible and hope for the best.

honestly dude and i know this is going to sound ***. but my fish are like my children. i think all of them are awesome looking. Im sure you will like yours as well

my bigger one is 3-4" has some color coming in, and a weird pattern on the top of him. my other little gu is still silver and ugly with only faint red on the tail.

We all have different definitions on what looks good. You can expect some color kicking in well at 6-8". I have some local Mono/Ocell with great markings, yellows and reds at the 9"-10" range.

can someone tell me whats up with the weird pattern on my bigger cichlas back? al along his back he has this darker lines and stripes.

probably. I noticed them his first day here and now that he was in a qt tank for a few days now that hes back in the main tank hes back to being a very light pale yellow/green.
