my yellowtail is on pellets first u must make him strike feeders at the surface then get him on frozen use frozen krill or silversides like i still use then make sure he strikes the food it works if u have current in the tank then i just drop a massivore pellet in front of him the current helps make the pellets wobble a bit but he should strike it wat type of cudas u planning on getting yellowtail, altus or falactus i will be useing this same method when i get my altus but ur cuda still might not take the pellets but good luck

not sure if it's similar but I got a rocket gar on pellets supplemented with crickets. I bought the big sinking cichlid sticks that are brownish and mixed them with crickets when I fed him. he really enjoyed crickets He at first avoided the pellets but soon he was accidentally grabbing the pellets. After about a month he finally accepted that the pellets were food. But when I got him the store owner had already implemented this trick for an unknown period of time and they had the occasonal pellet in the tank. Finally got him on only pellets with the occasonal cricket as a treat, thought the filter was powerful and th pellets were always in motion when he hit them. He Lasted about 1 year and was 9 inches, double what i got him at when he died in a power outage about 5 months ago.

I bought my redtail and he ate pellets from day one and thats all he would eat. i had to train him to take frozen food
