I noticed today that one of my fishes scales are kind of puffed out. (sort of like what a bird does when it is cold). From what I can find on the internet this looks like my fish has dropsy. Unfortunately how to treat the fish was a little fuzzy. What should I do to ensure that the fish lives, and that my other fish don't contract the same thing? Should I treat the entire tank?

Tank 110 g.

Black ghost knife
Pleco
Silver dollors
Clown loaches
dojo loaches
Platies (mom liked the platies) One of these are the sick fish.

Hope I provided enough info. And the tank perameters according to aquarium pharmecuticals master test kit, came back good. 0 nitrite, 0 ammonia, and about 20 nitrate.

How long should I treat with salt? And do you mean one cup for the entire 110g tank?

Just keep it in there. When you do a water change and pull out 25 Gallons you put 5 tablespoons back to replace the salt you removed. It won't hurt your other fish, in fact, it should ease stress on them too.

Yes, initially about a cup for the tank. Then a heaping tablespoon per five gallons when replacing the salt. Salt does NOT evaporate, only the cleanest water. All the yucky stuff stays.

Ok, I started salt treatments yesterday, and will keep it in the tank. Thank you for the help, it is much appreciated, and I'm sure the fish will agree too.
