I've just done a water change and had my daily inspection of fish and noticed three out of 6 fish have tiny white dots on their tails and fins, which I believe to be ich. What do I treat the tank with and how do I treat ich in a 6x2x2 tank with two stingrays in it? How at risk are my stingrays from getting sick, and are there any issues treating the tank with the rays in there? Tad worried. :nilly:

Add marine salt. That wont harm stingrays and will help curing ich. I don't know dosage though. :(

Also UV filter is good at that point. I actually keep it on always as it reduces algae a lot.

raise the temp in the tank, use the salt, won't hurt the rays and go from there,i,ve heard of people using treatment stuff on here.but for now i,d do that cause i,m unsure myself for medicine to use that would be safe....hopefully someone will answer that for you

Whack temp up to 88 deg F,get a close contact UV staight away and add a half ounce per gallon (1.8 kilos)of pond salt, thats the right amount for a tank of your size. This will definitely work, tried and tested many times, most chemicals used to treat Protozoa such as ick are generally risky in tanks containing rays.
Good luck!

Hey thanks for the replies. I followed all advice except the salt dosage, because I had conflicting advice and would rather under-salt then over-salt the tank. Also haven't added a UV filter as I don't have one on hand. >_<

Turned up temperature to 28 degrees celsius, and dissolved 150mL of naturally evaporated sea salt in hot water and poured into the tank. Is there any further advice on dosage amounts?

you mean aquarium salt?

added more salt to the tank and turned the temperature up to 30 degrees celsius.

now i've dosed approx. 550mL of salt, dissolved in hot water. Noticed it in the afternoon yesterday, it's been nearly a day and no improvement yet.

yeh salt as mentioned whack the temp up to 32deg celcuis protozoa cant live above 30 deg celcuis... and use someting like protozon or it will come back it can only be killed in spore form and they will release once the temp is up ;) some ppl use salt alone but i have found this to be inaffective by itself.

Hope this helps!

thanks a lot. i've used all up 500 grams of salt now, and will use another 500g over the next two days if the white spots aren't coming off. only problem is getting my tank to 30 degrees! because it's winter here it struggles to reach that temperature.
