My male motoro is mature...swolen claspers, 10" diameter. My female is 11", i have not noticed any signs of breeding yet, temp is 80-82 degrees feeding a massivore and hikari gold diet with occasional shrimp. My male after feeding will beat the female up a little...never leaving any marks or damage, and then go back searching for food. How could i help push them into breeding? DO you think maybe my female is just not mature?

it could be the female is not ready
if she is ready lots of water changes and a meaty diet will help
the temp drop during the water change will simulate rainfall as in the breedin season
my male used to turn crazed after everyone

dont think she is ready yet.....

females need to be a good 12" atleast in motoros.... ive never heard of a motoro breeding smaller than that but i heard of some 12" ones breeding....

I never really noticed any breeding activity with my female. There were some bite marks around her disk but nothing that looked too serious. Only realized she was pregnant when her back side started to fill out and I finally saw movement. At the time, she was 11" when she got pregnant and there were 2 mature males in the tank. Your female may not be mature yet.

that answers my questions, because i wondered if sometimes they do not get all chewed up during breeding. All i have ever seen was pretty bad damage.

I had a female moroto breed at 10.5 inches. When they reach maturity really depends on the individual ray. Just my experience.

The first time she bred, the father was the male I no longer have. He didn't seem too aggressive. Different story with the male that is in the tank now. He is much more aggressive with the female than the other male.

turn the temp up to 86 and do lots of water changes my rays always used to breed as the new water was being added
