i got some sand the other day for my 55 bgal reef tank and it says to rinse it but idk how this sand is powder it is VERT VERY fine and it will just go throught the strainer i used to rinse the other stuff any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

What I've always did is either get a bucket and stick the hose down in there if its 5 gallon just fill it up half way and let the water cover flow the buckets and stir the sand up with your hands some. When the waters clear should be good to go. Another way I've done it is use a big bowl and put it under the sink faucet then do the same method as the bucket. Thats what I did the first couple times. Last couple times though I said screw it and didn't rinse the sand just put it in there.

I normally wash a little at a time in a bucket, pouring the dirty water out only after all the sand has settled, or for really fine stuff actually scooping the water back out with a cup. Though if it was a TON of sand I'd probably just dump it in and let the filters handle the dust.
