In the tank
I recently put my gars in an outdoor water tank and find that mosquitos like to lay eggs in the tank. Is there anything I can do to avoid mosquitos laying eggs in the tank without causing harm to the gars? Thanks

If adding water current is not an option (there is too much water surface to cover), is there other method I can use .. anything I can add to the water?

Mosquito fish are probably the best option (or a bunch of guppies). If you have enough, then the gar won't eat them all, but they'll eat all/most of the mosquito larvae.

It is quite impractical for me to saturate the tank with guppies all the time. Does adding salt into water help? I have to give up on keeping gars if my neighbors find out my outdoor tank breeds mosquitoes! :(

yea i agree

Keeping the water surface moving is the best thing; it really doesn't require that much movement to discourage mosquitos, a small pump creating a fountain or waterfall will be plenty for a good-sized tank.

A second option is mosquito 'dunks', which are floating things impregnated with a dipteran-specific pathogen, Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis. They are harmless to all other organisms.
