i have a 2" plec and 3 2" rb piranhas

i want some thing additional to help clean up uneaten food at the bottom of tanks.

does anyone have any thoughts or experience on keeping crawfish with piranha's?

what would be the best size to try with baby p's?

with baby piranhas your risking the crayfish eating the piranhas (they are predators and scavengers) with adult p's they piranha's will probably shread the crayfish

IMO it wont work (unless you have adult p's and lots of hiding spots for the crayfish)

if a plec can handle being with 'em I would think a large Australian cray would survive

i agree :headbang2

I put 10x cray fish in with my rhom, Lucifer the other day. 4 days later there are only 3 left. These three are mostly hiding and will be eaten soon. Like stated above, crays need great hiding spots or they will become a meal.

Yes, particularly when they molt. They are pretty tough generally, but at molting time any predatory fish can and will tear them apart.

You might have more luck with something like a large raphael cat, but even then it's hit-or-miss with P's.

ive lost every cray i have ever had... everyone of them has been killed when it molted.. even the crays ive put in my guppy tanks have been killed and eaten (well.. the face/legs/belly always get eaten.. 100-500 guppies eat a lot but a 4-5 inch cray is a bit big)

feeding less keeps excess food off the bottom of the tank..

looks like im gonna have to look up the term "molting"....... duh
