How true Is Heterometrus Longimanus are hermaphrodites!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There are species of scorpions that fall into the category of being hermaphroditic. H. longimanus is not one of these species. However, there have been incidents of lone females producing young. Genetic testing have shown the progeny to be genetically identical to the adult female. Therefore, it must be considered that the species may be able to reproduce parthenogenetically (self-cloning). The conditions required to trigger such an event have yet to be defined.

On fully developed specimens, the male pectines are longer and thicker than those of the female. The genital operculum of the male is nearly a perfect oval. On the female, the operculm is heart-shaped.
