Just seen this link on another forum. How would you build a tank like this? Do you think it is glass with a metal frame? It looks amazing - I want one!!!

the same way he did with money :j/k: some angle iron and big sheets of glass a welder and silicone lots of silicone

Everytime I see this tank I dream. I got a perfrect spot for a setup like that at my pad. Im just waiting for the sister and her husband to move out... Ohh and I am also waiting on some mucho buco.

don't know how it was done but i like it

back in the day, and I mean back in the day when tanks were first coming out. they built them on the ground just like this one, and they used angel iron, and they used a black sealant, I think it was a rubber material, but I'm not sure on that. and weld the frame together and put your sealant in the angel iron, and put in your glass. when it dries fill it with water and there you go.. fish tank..

that sealant is urethane probably, the stuff they use to set windsheilds in cars

That black sealant was tar. Tanks had steel frames and slate bottoms. The tar sealer formed a barrier between the slate and glass. So long as the tank held water the tar was OK. Once the tank was stored for a while, it had to be broken down and retarred. The new tar made the house reek because you had to warm the tar in a pot of boiling water to make it supple enough to work with. Glad there's silicone now.
