The tank will house my 3 gar and 2 spiney eels.. now heres the kicker.. i would like to add another 300 to the same filtration set-up... so 1 filter to run 2 stock tanks. eventually i'll need the second one.. and i may need to move fish back and forth.. so it just makes sense to loop them together. how would you guys go about it?

I was thinking of running the tetra pf1 and adding a sump that can be connected so if need be I can seperate the tanks onto a pf1 if need be for some reason. I've never utilized an eheim before ( truth be told I hate canister filters) so more suggestions for appropriately sized filters woudl be welcome. I'll have to check the specs on those ( I know eheim gets rave reviews)

I would build a gravity (or dump) filter for each of the stock tanks (powered by a pump in the tank).

The Rubbermaids have a 1 1/4" drain on the bottom. I plumbed mine with a ball valve and drain line to my garden (or some other place to drain). Open the ball valves and you can clean the bottom and drain the tank...

I used similar set-ups for 150 stock tanks for bichirs and a lungfish. Worked great...

I would use a sump for bio filtration and a DE filter (Hayward EC40 $220 delivered from Amazon) for mechanical. Should make a very effective very easy to maintain filtration system with plenty of extra filtration capacity.

Same like a single tank... Sump. 100-150gl sump (bigger is always better but you get the idea).

Kaldnes and ceramic rings is my Vote. Best bang for your buck as Kaldnes is a self cleaning media and ceramic rings you can toss them in a wash-machine cloth for easy moving. 1-2 pumps min and depending on the location/distance of the 2nd 300 since it sounds like it would be a temp thing.

Oh and lots of PVC :)

2 Eheim 2262. They would handle that tank without a problem.
