the bilogical filter? I want to change the gravel in my 300g. These is 240lbsin there. How would you guys go about this?

I just did that in my 125. I just gradually changed out the gravel. I took about 1/3 out each week for three weeks. It is a slow process but my levels didn't go up!

If you arent using a ugf and have a good bioflter going like sump or biowheels it shouldnt be a problem.I'd monitor water quality closly for a few weeks and be prepared to do extra waterchanges but you may not have to.

When I changed it on my 300 I did it all at once with no problems, but I have a big sump so all of the bacteria is in there.

i just took out all my gravel in my 240 gallon last week and all my fish are fine. i even added new fishes in the tank 3 days after i did this. so far no problems. i doubt there would be. i'm running a 30"x12"x12" wet/dry with a bunch of bio balls.

can driftwood hold beneficial bacteria too? if so, i also have 3 very large pieces of driftwood in there.
