looking for medium light for some decent plant tank..

forgot to mention..i only have 1 1/2 inch above the tank to work with.

how would you light it!

One thing I have done in my fish room and love is I placed a blue cfl over the filter side of one of my tanks. At night its throws rippling blue light across the fish room. Plus the fish still behave as if the lights are off. As far as all the high tech lighting I'm still learning although most of my tanks are planted and I am using a combination of cfl and strip florescent lighting to take care of them. If I were in your shoes though I think I would use a few high quality cfl grow bulbs. Sweet tank by the way.

thank you for the quick response... it is an awesome little tank I have a pare of Steal blue lyre tail killifish in there at the moment and about 4 tire shrimp ..

its currently lit by a strip florescent light but its 12 inches ...and that is way to long for the tank.

love this little tank^_^! fits perfectly on my desk and is filtered by a Marina s20...makes is sooo crystal clear.

not sure if this would work, but they have fish tank lights over here in HK that look almost like desktop lamps, except they have those clamps used on fish tanks... they normally come in i think 6W / 9W / 12W/

I'll see if i can find a pic and post it up, although not sure if it will be strong enough to light that tank properly?

-EDIT-

Here is a pic of what the lights look like... not the same brand, but same shape etc...

AHH i ran in to a small LFS here that has those!..slightly different wastage but i might have to look in to them a bit further.

I agree with dockturtle, CFL. You can easily make your own hood with (2) regular screw in light fixtures, pop in the Compact Fluorescent bulbs and you are golden. Just make sure you get the right light spectrum bulbs. 5500-6500K spectrum.

Cheers!
