I'm simply following the suggestion of the website to introduce myself. I teach Biology at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools in Chicago, IL where my students asked to raise a fish that was "special." They were intrigued by the promiscuity of the gambusia, a fish whose name hadn't appeared on monsterfish probably because it is food for so many others, but they seemed to want to observe a fish that would "eat stuff." So, we began to design an in-class environment for three very active and full of personality Polypterus senegalus. They started in our temporary tanks at about 3.5" and have quickly outgrown them. In about 3 months they packed on weight and length. The longest is nearing 7". We have used these incredible fish for behavioral and taxonomic studies. If anyone knows where we might locate some other Polypterus species, send me a message.
As an aside, I had Neil Shubin, fish paleontologist from the University of Chicago and Provost of the Field Museum, give a talk to my students. He is a fantastic speaker and I highly recommend his new book, "Your Inner Fish."

:welcome:! Can't wait for more of your input:)

As far as finding other polys, check the buy/sell section. There's usually something there.
