Hey Gang...my name is Blaine and I am new to this forum. I am a member of a local forum in Winnipeg but I have used this site quite a bit as a reference.
I am 40 years old and a manager for a local finacial service. I live alone...with the exception of my boy Chaos, his cat Dax and my 11 aquariums....in a 1 bedroom apartment. Nice and cozy...I like being surrounded by living growing things.
I have 3 tanks of cichlids and another with their fry. 2 brackish tanks,...one with eels, the other with puffers, BB gobies, dragon goby and guppies. One tank of mixed tropicals, one with congo knife fish, one with predators (polypterus, gar, ropefish, BG knife)...and a small tank for feeders. All my tanks are planted, very well lit, and hugely overfiltered. That way I only spend 2 hours, once a week on maintenance....and the rest of the time enjoying.
My most recent aquisition was a flower shrimp (FW, approx 3-4", red stripes).
Next week I am picking up some copadichromis borleyi for my latest tank.
Last night...had my most interesting experience to date.....had to perform emergency surgery on a BN pleco to remove an isopod (full grown female) from its body cavity. I had noticed a couple of tendrils sticking out from a hole near the plecos rectum...but being unfamiliar with pleco anatomy I gave them little thought. Until I saw them moving!!! I quickly removed the fish from its tank, got him under a bright light and proceeded to extract the little parasite with some tweezers. Eeewww!!! And not so little...sucker was as fat as my thumb and 1.5" long. It looked like a big white cockroach!! Anyways now I'm not sure if I should get rid of the pleco or not....might be more of them inside him?!? The other fish in the tank dont seem infected but...?

Anyways...looking forward to meeting everyone...if anyone has any advice on what to do about isopods please feel free to send me a message.

Thanx
Blaine
