Really great site and nice forum. been a fish keeper in one way or another since a kid in the sixties. Like a lot of us, back then I learned about the hobby mostly by trial and error. Over the years I've had some pretty cool fish. If they were unique or odd I've probably kept em' or tried at one time or another. Never been much into breeding, only the occasional incidental surprise (emperor tetras) in a 25 gal. and of course various cichlids quite a while back. I've had a cold water 100 gal. in the living room for about 11 years now and up until recently kept one redcap oranda and and one black moor in it. Both excellent examples in configuration that grew huge. Sadly I lost "Dummyfish" and "Pirate" a few months back (long story) and had been keeping a handful of feeder minnows in it to keep things balanced. Two weeks ago I took my newly acquired 8 yr. old daughter fishing at a friends pond where she promptly pulled a beautiful redear off its nest bed and seconds later caught a 6 in. largemouth in the same spot. I tried to dissuade her from keeping them but tears are tears, and reminding me that we've got that big ol' tank, well.... I caved in. I've kept native species including bass in the past so I know what I'm in for. Anyway, Thats what led me here and I know I'll get plenty of helpful input with my questions from all you good enthusiasts.
