Hyya Folks
As a young child both my parents and older brother kept fish. Each had thier own preference of fish and there were tanks of all sizes. My mother had a passion for angel fish, my father had a thing for mollies, fancy guppies, and sword tails. My brother had Oscars! I was just a child and as such, I was not allowed to have any part of the process of feeding, cleaning, breeding or anything in the maintance of the tanks/fish. Just allowed to watch.
I was recently re-introduced to fish when a friend aquired a tank, with a huge Oscar and a monsterious size Pleco. Watching his interaction with his new tank/fish, brought about memories of childhood. I found myself again mesmorized with the fish. Yet I also inherantly felt something was amiss, cloudy water, no decor and a tendency he has for over stocking. He has never tested water for anything other than tempatures. I began to watch the new fish he intoduced die.
I felt and still do that because of his ignorance, impatience and the fact he refuses listen or take any advice given from myself, LFS, and other fish keepers, he is rapidly headed for disappointment and further frustraion.
I began to think that I could do better. I can read, I have access to the i-net and my personality is not abrasive nor anti-social that I could get the appropriate information I need. So....
I found two 55 gallon tanks w/stands. For two reasons I want a foo-foo tank and a predator tank. One reason for the foo-foo tank, I am married and she perfers "pretty fish" and the second reason, my deceased mother had the foo-foo tanks...the "pretty fish" and a silent third reason...I like "pretty fish" and schooling fish as well.
However, I am ultimately fascinated with predatory and aggresive, enthusiastic eaters, hense the second tank will focus on the predators...the monster fish. I know instinctively that the two 55 gal tanks will not be sufficient, as such I know thier are more tanks coming in the not to distant future in addition to quarantine tanks and hospital tanks and feeder tanks.
Because I know I havent been around fish (cept on the end of a hook), And there is obviously a plethora of information and I dont trust LFS because I know they are there to make $$$ by selling fish, chemicals, decorations and anythng else that the market peddles as benificial. And by luck I heard about this site and could not wait to investigate and as a result am now a member.
Yes, I am a newbie, yes I am a novice, but I have the will, the tenacity and the ability to follow instructions. I look forward to reading each of your experiances and rest assured your experiance in this Monster Fish endeavor will be greatly appreciated.
