My first post as a new member here. I'm restoring an old plywood and acrylic tank made by Bob Sherman in 1969, way back before he started Marineland.

I'll try to post pics in another thread more appropriately placed at a later date.

Hello and welcome to MFK!

Post up some photos of that beast! It would really cool to have some sort of progression thread on your proejct! Sounds like a cool tank :)

Oh yeh count me subed to this I really want to see this build go down.

Welcome to mfk and it seems you are well on your way with that tank

Thanks everyone for the welcome! It's only a 135 gallon tank, but it's definitely got character! I just picked up 2 8+" Satanoperca daemon today that will eventually be housed in that tank. Eartheaters are so seldom seen on my island that I jumped at the chance to get them. They're in my 85ish gallon acrylic Truvue tank right now. It's a "Double-bubble" tank. Basically a black acrylic 3'x3'x1' box with 2 dome shaped skylights protruding out of it. It's the natural counterpart to the Bob Sherman tank, it's just a shame they won't be in the same room, but oh well.

I'll take pictures as I go. I got a reply from Marineland telling me to use Dow and Corning #1205 and 100% Silicone caulking to reseal the dome. I'm tempted to invert this dome so that it would match the other tank, but I'm just as tempted to leave it as it was originally. I think I'd have to enlarge the hole just a little bit to invert it, so I might not do it after all.

I'll have to figure out the appropriate place in the forum for that thread and start it this week!

Thanks again,
Jon
