I have a little sen. bichir in a 15gL (2ft) growout tank.

I love him, he was the runt at the petstore, but now hes so awesome. I 've had him about a month, and hes filled out a lot. He's maybe 3" or so.

Curently, he eats everything the baby con and baby fireouth get:

wardly cichlid crumbles
frozen brine shrimp
frozen krill
omega one betta flakes
omega one tropical flakes
omega one veggie discs
tetra cichlid sticks
new life spectrum
frozen bloodworms

SHould i try to get more meaty things in his diet? The pelets/flakes all have 40+% protein, the plankton 70%.

I love this little guy BTW. SO much zest for life! He doesn't take **** from the cichlids, i think he knows his tough skin is no match for them! He will steal food from their mouths!

the brine shrimp, krill, bloodworm etc would be fine for now. but when it starts getting bigger (or even now if you choose), i would get more meaty stuff in its diet like frozen fish, frozen shrimp (raw would be better) etc. you can also throw other stuff into the mix like beefheart, earthworm etc. of course everything needs to be bite size.

I try to stay away from manufactured food.

I like frozen stuff better and even food from the local supermarket.

Frozen shrimp, frozen krill, live blackworms, frozen silversides, and squid.

your diet is good, try frozen foods, they are also good like shrimps, fish and muscles, has high protein content, makes you bichir grow a bit faster compare pellets, although it doesn't contain vitamins and other nutrients
